Harold D. Smith

York - Harold D. Smith, 87, died on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Picker) Smith to whom he was married for 65 years.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Chapel United Methodist Church, 3050 Cape Horn Rd., Red Lion, with Pastor Brendan Hock officiating and Masonic rites provided at the start of the service. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements.

Born on June 28, 1930 in Fawn Grove, he was a son of the late Vincent Smith and Ethel J. (Mathews) Grancel. Harold worked maintenance at Bendix Corp until its closure, then at York International until his retirement in 1992. He was also self-employed specializing in concrete and mason work.

Mr. Smith was a member of Chapel United Methodist Church. He served our country for three years and ten months in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Harold's memberships include Korean War Veterans Association, Inc., The National League of Masonic Club, White Rose Square Dancer, Red Lion American Legion Post #543, Masonic Lodge #649 F&A.M., Tall Cedars of Lebanon, York County Shrine Club, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites, Harrisburg Consistory, Red Lion Scottish Rite Club, Zembo Temple, Post Commander at Fawn Grove V.F.W., The Moose Lodge and Blue Ribbon Rod & Gun Club of York. He assisted with the Rainbow Girls Drill Team of Red Lion and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Along with his wife, Ruth, Harold leaves two daughters, Donna R. Voorhees of Dallastown and Debra A. Quickel and husband, Gerry of Benezette; three grandchildren, Rebecca Altland of York, Rodney Ream of Dallastown and Lonnie Moser of Hellam; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Barry D. Smith; two brothers, Walter J. Smith and William V. Smith; and one sister, Bertha J. Falkler.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3050 Cape Horn Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356.
