John Black Obituary

John R. Black Jr.

York - John R. Black, Jr., 75, entered into rest at 5:56 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Rosella M. (Becker) Black. The couple celebrated 51 years of marriage on October 28, 2017. Born February 2, 1943 in Hanover, he was a son of the late John R. Black, Sr. and Betty J. (Gladfelter) Taylor.

John graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1961and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1962 to 1966. He retired in 1998 following 31 years of service for Caterpillar where he worked as a time clerk and ASRS operator. Following retirement, John had 16 years of service for Fisher Auto Parts.

He was a member of UAW Local 786 where he was a former union steward. John enjoyed building and fixing things, gardening, yard work, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved animals.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by four daughters, Rochelle M. Black of York, Monelle M. Baynard and husband, Bob of Mechanicsburg, Michelle M. Black of York and Janelle M. Makowski and husband, Stephen of York; four grandchildren, Emily, Maliah and twins, Abigail and Chloe; and a brother, Alan "Butch" Black of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Black and Nancy Jean Taylor.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John's funeral at 5 p.m. and the viewing from 4 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Pleasant Acres Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 118 Pleasant Acres Rd., York. Veteran's honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018 in Suburban Memorial Gardens, 3875 Bull Rd., Dover. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is serving his family.

John has requested no flowers. Instead, memorial contributions may be made to York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406. www.emigfuneralhome.com

I really liked John he was a good man. I would hear him yell " Hey Bobby" over top all the noise of the machinery at Cat, he would make me laugh.
