Kathleen Miller Obituary

Kathleen L. Miller
December 23, 1951 - March 1, 2017
Dover
Kathy (Maye) Miller died on March 1 in Dover, at the age of 65. She was the wife of Thomas Miller. They would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on May 24. Kathy is also survived by her brother, Richard Maye of Fredericksburg, VA; her son, Evan Miller and his wife, Rebecca; and daughter, Ellie Miller and her husband, Daniel DiFranco, all of Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Maye of Dallas, PA. Kathy was born on December 23, 1951 in Wilkes Barre, to Harold and Aileen Maye. She graduated from Lock Haven University in 1973 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. She married Tom, a Geologist, in 1975. After moving to the York area, Kathy began teaching at Northeastern High School. She also taught at St. Joseph Elementary School and Delone Catholic High School. Kathy was a sports official in field hockey and basketball for over 30 years, and officiated at the State Championship level. Kathy enjoyed being on the water, either fishing from her kayak or sailing (although she enjoyed the sun more than the wind). She liked traveling with Tom in their 1978 VW camper bus on vacation or to car shows. She also enjoyed music, entertaining members of the Heritage Senior Center and Dover United Church of Christ with jokes and ukulele performances. She was a member of the United Church of Christ for many years, where she participated with the Women's Guild and sang in the choir. A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday March 11 at Dover United Church of Christ, 45 West Canal St., Dover, PA. The family will receive visitors at 9 a.m. with a service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a lunch reception. Rev. Eva O'Diam will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kathy's life. In lieu of a viewing, Kathy wished to support Gift of Life and Anatomical Gift Registry. Memorial contributions may be made in Kathy's name to Dover United Church of Christ Women's Guild or the York SPCA.

DearTom and kids,
As you remember, Kathy and I shared a great friendship, especially throughout her Delone days. We talked, told stories, shared and laughed a lot-- especially on difficult days. My kids adored having her as a teacher, and like me were deeply saddened to hear the news of her untimely death. She was a woman of such energy and life! The way she could hoist those kayaks-- just amazing. We had fun times at Codorus just paddling around and enjoying each other's company. I missed her so much when she left Delone; that vacancy never resolved for me while I was there because though she was small in stature, she shared her whole heart with people.God love all of you. What a treasure we had in her! The fact that she coached Pam Duncan speaks volumes-- I love her too!

I met this wonderful person before she became Mrs. Miller. She was my Phys Ed teacher in high school (Northeastern). Every morning, I would go to the locker room (her office was there and I believe she had a photo of Mark Spitzer with his 7 medals hanging on her wall) just to say "Good Morning". I haven't seen her since graduation, but she touched my soul deeply. I think, if I remember correctly, she liked Jethro Tull! Fond memories of a beautiful soul. Blessings and Prayers to her friends and family. Thank you, Miss May, for being such a positive influence on me and my life. You will be missed.

My friend of four years is gone. We talked on the phone 5 minutes and instantly became friends. We were so different but so much alike. I will miss her laugh, jokes, understanding, listening, honesty, phone calls, our plans we had together in the future, our bragging about our kids, husband and pets. I will miss you so much friend.

My sincere condolences to Tom, Evan and Ellie and Rebecca and Dan. I am so sorry for your loss. Kathy was a great lady. I'm sorry we didn't get to know each other more. Almost every time I talked to her we were either keeping each other from going crazy from our children being out of the country and worrying about them being safe. Or she was telling me about all the trips her and Tom were going to do. Sometimes she cut our convo short because they were on the way out to do a bike ride or a trip in the VW. She'll be deeply missed. Rest in peace. My love to you all.

Kathy was a friend when we taught together at Delone Catholic High School. We spoke often and shared laughs, smiles, ideas and concerns over lunches and free periods. Kathy would share about her Kayak adventures, VW camping trips and I do remember photos of her in costume dressing up as the star of " I Love Lucy." She was a class act in many ways and will be missed by all who knew her. See you in Eternity, Kathy....,With prayers!

Words cannot express my sadness to hear the news of my High School Basketball Coach and friend Kathy. I am so honored to have been coached by her. People make such a positive influence in one's life and this woman was definitely at the top of my list. To her family and friends I am so very sorry. Pam Duncan
