Leonard Brown Obituary

Leonard D. Brown WEST MANCHESTER TWP. Leonard D. Brown, 86, died Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2003, in Warrington Twp. He was the husband of Vivian L. (Slaybaugh) Brown, his wife of 56 years, who died April 22, 1997. Following cremation, a memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. Burial with military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with Masonic rites at 9:45 a.m. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Reverend Norman E. Spangler. Mr. Brown was born March 6, 1917, in Emigsville. He was the son of the late Edward D. and Catherine (Naylor) Brown. He was a 1934 graduate of York High. He was an Independent Insurance Agent affiliated with Nationwide Insurance Company owning and operated the Leonard Brown Agency in West York for 40 years until his retirement in 1979. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Mediterranean as a Gunner's Mate and was part of the first wave to hit the beach in the Southern France Invasion. He was a 50 year member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in York and was a 50 year member of both the Zeredetha Lodge #451 Free & Accepted Masons and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was also a member of Zembo Temple and Consistory and was a former member of the York County Shrine Club. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Lincolnway Lions Club and was a life member of both the West York VFW Post 8951 and Reliance Fire Company. Mr. Brown is survived by his son, Lynn D. Brown of York; his daughter, Karen E. Lattuca of Shiloh; four grandchildren, Tracey Lattuca, James Lattuca, Holly Smith, and Chris Brown; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles Brown of York; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Brown; two brothers, William and Luther Brown; and a sister, Louise Brightbill. Memorial contributions may be made to the York County Blind Center, 1380 Spahn Ave., York, PA 17403 or Otterbein United Methodist church, 301 W. Philadelphia St., York, PA 17404.
