Mary W. Bancroft

YORK Mary W. Bancroft, 95, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at Misericordia Convalescent Home. She was the wife of H.G. ''Banny'' Bancroft, Jr., who died September 27, 1972. Born October 30, 1911, in WinstonSalem, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Graves and Ethel Mary (Bennett) Wilson. Mary was a former co-owner of H.G. Bancroft, Inc. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Country Club of York, and the Woman's Club of York. Mrs. Bancroft was a long time member of the Garden Club of York. She was one of the founding members of York Camera Club and was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener, and bridge player. Survivors include two sons, Herman G. Bancroft, III of New York, N.Y., and R. Stephen and his wife, Mary B. Bancroft of York; and a grandson, Robert T. Bancroft of York. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Ronald E. Bowersox officiating. Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. A visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Misericordia Convalescent Home, 998 S.
