Mary Stover Obituary

SHILOH Mary Lou Stover, 79, was ushered into Heaven on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 8:45 p.m. with her loving son by her side. The daughter of the late Solomon Earl and Agnes Pauline (Wonders) Bentz, Mary Lou was born September 20, 1934, in York. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald E. Stover and to whom she was happily married for 48 years. Side by side, they created a loving family including their two sons, Brian E. Stover and wife Kathy, and Kevin E. Stover and wife Kellie. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Justin E. Stover, Kohen E. Stover, and Kadia L. Stover; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Michael Stover. She will be missed by extended family including her brother, Dale Bentz; sister-in-law, Barbara Jane Pfleiger; niece, Julene Bechtel; and many additional family members. In addition, her brother, Elwood Bentz and sister-in-law, Mary Gail Bentz predeceased her. Mary Lou graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1953. She retired from Gent-L-Kleen Products, Inc. after 23 years of service, where she loved working as their receptionist. Prior to that, others came to know Mary Lou when she worked at the York Bank and Trust Co. She was a member of the Shiloh United Church of Christ for 70 years and an active member of the Widows Club and Shepherding Committee. Mary Lou also enjoyed helping prepare for Flowers Sunday. She was proud that she and Don were the first couple married in the church. In addition, Mary Lou enjoyed being part of the Christian Women's Organization. Mary Lou was a people person who touched many lives. She always saw the good in people. Her greatest passions in life were caring for Kohen and Kadia, helping others, spending time with friends and family, dining out, bicycling, playing games, taking trips with the Caterpillar York Retirees Club, and vacationing with Mary Emma Elicker and her grandchildren. Her love of helping others lead her to join the Shiloh Lioness Club where she served faithfully for 29 years. Mary Lou compassionately coordinated their Joys and Concerns Committee, organizing visits, flowers and cards for members in need. She was happiest when she was spreading happiness to others. Her family will remember her as a person who was nice to everyone she met. She was helpful, thoughtful, kind, forgiving, and loved with her whole heart. But most of all, they will miss her smile, hugs, kisses, and generosity. In celebration of Mary Lou's life, please join us this Thursday, February 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Shiloh United Church of Christ, 2251 Willow Road, York. A luncheon will follow the service from 12 to 1:30 p.m. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Committal service will be at 2 p.m. in Barrens Valley Church Cemetery, Dillsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403-3450; or to the Shiloh United Church of Christ, 2251 Willow Road, York, PA 17408. The LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., York (Shiloh), were entrusted with her arrangements.
