Merdella Smith Obituary

Merdella A. Fitzkee Smith, 94 years and nine months, passed away peacefully at 12:55 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2006, at Manor Care Health Services, Kingston Court. She was born January 15, 1912, in Windsor, to the late Harry Foster and Astella Lucille (Axe) Fitzkee. Merdella was retired since 1980 from the former Hahn Home in York, following 20 years of employment. She was a former member of Emmanuel Evangelical Church of Windsor. Our beloved mother is survived by three daughters, Charmaine I. and her husband, Duke Markey of Red Lion, Lucille A. Resser of Red Lion, and Susan "Pam" Bray of York. Grandma Smith and our Nanny was adored by nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Ned Smith; a half brother, Fritz Collins; and a half sister, Mildred Thophal. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Windsor Cemetery, corner of N. Blacksmith Ave. and Shaw Road, Windsor, with the Rev. Sterling Trimmer, Jr., pastor of Arlington E.C.C., officiating. Friends and guests should meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m. on Friday. The family will receive guests at the residence of Duke and Charmaine Markey in Red Lion, following the graveside service. The Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, York, is in charge.
