Paul Stein Obituary

COLUMBIA Paul I. Stein, 87, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Saint Anne's Retirement Community, where he had been a resident for the past month. He was married 56 years to his beloved wife, Bernice Loder Stein, until her death in 2003. A lifelong Columbia resident, he was the son of the late Frank and Sarah Yohn Stein. Paul retired in 1987 after 40 years of service from the Armstrong Lancaster Floor Plant, where worked as a leader and relief supervisor of the sheet metal shop. He was a Columbia High School graduate Class of 1942 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. A devoted and dedicated member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, he was active in the Holy Name Society and Trinitarians. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2294; Santa Maria Assembly; Red Rose Memorial Post 2435 VFW; Catholic War Veterans Post 1306; Abel Poff Leitheiser Post 469 American Legion, and the Submarine Veterans of WWII. He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Stein of Hellam, Josetta, wife of David Grimes, Mentor, Ohio, and Paula, wife of Walter Carr of York; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Mckinney and Theresa Cranford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. Kenneth F. Lawrence, Celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and Vet 21 Salute Honor Guard. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paul's memory would be deeply appreciated.
