Robert L. Gossweiler

STEWARTSTOWN Robert Lee Gossweiler, MD, 76, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, Md. He was the husband of Carol Gossweiler. The couple celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on June 9, 2009. There will be no viewing. A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Flushing Cemetery, Flushing (Queens), N.Y., with the Rev. Justin Meyers officiating. Arrangements are by the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. Born May 24, 1933, in Flushing, Queens County, N.Y., he was the son of the late John Wesley and Corinne (Stern) Gossweiler. Robert was an emergency room physician and board certified pediatrician employed with both Carroll County General Hospital of Westminster, Md., and Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md., retiring in 1995. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 196264, and was also a civilian physician at Ft. Dietrich during Jimmy Carter's presidency. In addition to his wife, Carol, Robert is survived by his children, Robert L. Gossweiler of Frederick, Md., Katharine L. Prebula of York, James C. and Christopher D. Gossweiler, both of Baltimore, Md., and Elizabeth Anne Hollis of Houston, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Regina Gossweiler.
