Robert P. Kane, 87, a lifelong resident of York, died February 15, 2018.
Mr. Kane was born July 10, 1930 to Paul E. and Grace (Shenberger) Kane. He was the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, George, and Michael; and his sister, Ann. His brother John Kane, of Sewickley, PA, survives.
Mr. Kane married M. Celine Eck on January 24, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Kane were married 61 years at the time of her death, September 11, 2014.
Mr. Kane is survived by his three children, Timothy E. (Deborah) Kane of York, Kathleen Kane Schlegel (William) of St. Augustine, FL and Union, KY, and Dennis E. (Tina) Kane of Seven Valleys; as well as eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson, Steven Stauffer.
Mr. Kane was a graduate of York Catholic High School, York Junior College, Dickinson College, and Dickinson Law School. He served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as Secretary of Revenue and as Attorney General during the Milton Shaap administration. Mr. Kane also practiced law in York for 56 years. In addition, he was involved in Pennsylvania's Democratic Party and played a key role in statewide visits by candidate, John F. Kennedy, in the 1960 presidential election. He also ran numerous campaigns for candidates for governor and congress throughout Pennsylvania including the only successful Democratic congressional candidate in York County in the past five decades.
Mr. Kane was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was active in its committees, as well as those of York Catholic High School and Catholic Professional Men's Association.
A memorial mass will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. 2018 at St. Patrick's Church, 231 S. Beaver St., followed by a reception for family and friends. John F. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, is in charge of arrangements.
