Ruby Luckenbaugh Ruth was born on September 25, 1928, in York County and was a lifetime resident of North Codorus Township. She joined her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2017. Ruby was the daughter of George L. and Margie R. Leese Luckenbaugh of Spring Grove, and a graduate of West York High School. She taught at Prospect School from 1946-47 and worked at York Corporation, McCrory's, and P.H. Glatfelter Co.
Miss Luckenbaugh wed Dale Eugene Ruth on July 17, 1948. They were married for 51 years at the time of Mr. Ruth's death in May, 2000 and had four children, Mrs. Linda May Gunnet, (husband, Edgar) of Raleigh, NC, Mr. Jerry Lee Ruth (deceased)(widow, Donna) formerly of Spring Grove, Mrs. Janet Fay Eichelberger, (husband, Donald) of Spring Grove, and Mrs. Patsy Ann Parks, (husband, Richard, deceased) of York. Mrs. Ruth is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine Roth of Lakewood, IL, Marlene Angevine of Appleton, WI; brother, Dennis; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Luckenbaugh of Spring Grove. Mrs. Ruth always cherished the blessings she received in the joy of her grandchildren, Matthew Gunnet (wife, Christina), Shawnn Eichelberger (wife, Sonya), Juliann Appleby (husband, Rik), Bradley Ruth (fiancée, Alexis), and Victor Eichelberger. She was also blessed when life showered her with 10 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Colton, Kloey, Kambria, Alauna, Matthew, Jackson, Raine, Rohnan, and Waylynn.
Throughout her life she was a devoted Christian and very involved in the life of her church, St. Peter's Lischey's UCC. Mrs. Ruth served as assistant secretary and secretary of the Sunday school from 1953 to 2004. During that time she taught Sunday school, was nursery assistant, Deaconess from 1978-88, treasurer of the Parsonage Fund from 1978-88, and a member of the Property and Christian Education Committees.
As committee chair and founding member of the Jefferson Girl Scouts Association, she helped shape the lives of many young women in her community. She was a member of the Hoffman Home and Homewood auxiliaries.
A member of the Spring Grove Democratic Club since 1947, Mrs. Ruth served as Secretary, Vice-President, and President. Mrs. Ruth was a member of the Spring Grove Friendship Hose #1 Ladies Auxiliary, once again serving as Secretary. She served on the York County Ladies Executive Board and was a member of the PA State Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Ruth leaves a legacy of exemplary community service.
On Sunday, October 15, a celebration of Mrs. Ruth's 89th birthday was held at Hanover Hall Nursing and Rehab Center. Twenty-four family members and friends were in attendance.
A funeral service in celebration of Ruby's life will be held on Saturday, October 28, at 3 p.m., at St. Peter Lischey's United Church of Christ, 5671 Lischeys Church Rd., Spring Grove, PA 17362. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. of Spring Grove, and on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
