Russell E. Watson, Jr.
Russell E. "Sonny" Watson, Jr., 88, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Charlotte M. (Lippy) Watson, with whom he celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on May 7, 2015.
Mr. Watson was born in York, on September 8, 1927, son of the late Russell E. and Dora (Graybill) Watson.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. Sonny was employed by AWI as a truck driver and Maintenance Supervisor, retiring after 40 years of service, in addition to 15 years of service at PADE Auto Auction.
His memberships include Druck Valley United Methodist Church, Navy Club 259 of York, Shiloh American Legion Post 791, and the Old Timer's Softball League at Girard Park. He was a past member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Sharon L. Klunk and her husband, Thomas of York, and Russell E. "Russ" Watson, III and his wife, Jana of York; five grandchildren, Gretchen and her husband, Brian, Justina and her husband, Jason, Bradley and his wife, Doreen, Todd and his wife, Lisa, and Jaime and her husband, Alex; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Watson of Florida; a sister, Virginia Elfner of Red Lion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Gohn.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh). Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. John Allen. Final resting place will be private in Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
