Shirley Carter Obituary

BROGUE Shirley Mae Carter, 70, died on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at 6:15 a.m. in her home in Brogue. She was the wife of Lee Roy Carter, and on July 9, 2010, they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Born on January 27, 1940, in York, she was a daughter of the late David and Louella Aubel. A lifetime resident of York County, she was a member of New Life Church of God in Jarrettsville, Md. Mrs. Carter and her husband were the owner/operators of the Trading Post in Delta, from the early 1990's until their retirement in 2008, where many customers called her "Mom." She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and playing bingo. In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Deborah Allred of Northeast, Maryland, Lee Roy Carter, Jr. of Craley, Susan M. Griffith and Michael Carter, both of Brogue, and David Carter; two stepchildren- Rick Carter of Hanover, and Roger Carter of New Park; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Carter on June 28, 2003.Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta, with her minister, Pastor Mark Warfield officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fawn Grove. Aunt Shirley you were the best person. I loved your sense of humor and how you always had a smile on your face. I remember coming to the trading post all the time when i was just a little squirt and getting penny candy. I will Definately Miss you! I know youre up in heaven with grandma and mark... love you and you never be forgotten.
