Shirley Hoover Obituary

SAGINAW Shirley A. (Cole) Hoover, 65, died at 6:20 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. She was the wife of Eugene W. Hoover, whom she married 46 years ago on June 9, 1963. Shirley was born March 2, 1944, in Little Rock, Ark., and was the daughter of Kenneth and Mary (Mitchell) Cole of Starview. She graduated from Northeastern High School in 1962. She retired in 2006 from Northeastern School District as a Teacher's Aid after more than 20 years of service. She saw value in each child with whom she worked and helped them to see their own potential. Mrs. Hoover was a member of the York Alliance Church, where her love for children kept her teaching with the Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and children's church programs. She played the piano and violin and loved the outdoors, but most importantly, she was a wonderful grandmother. In addition to her husband, Eugene, Shirley is survived by three daughters, Maria Renard and husband, Paul of Manchester, Marian Sue Malda and husband, Joe of Red Lion, and Sharon Weidemann and husband, Fred of Saginaw; nine grandchildren, Paul, Tyler, Maddie, Ellie, Esther, Hope, Michel, Brooke, and Sara; three sisters, Jeannie Gunsch and Sue Clancy, both of Dover, and Pat Linton of Red Lion; and one brother, Kimmy Cole of York Her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Road, York. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 S. Main St., Mount Wolf, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Tony Montemurro from Calvary Chapel in York and Tim Shuey from York Alliance Church. Dear Gene and Family,
It is with heavy hearts that Patti, Mom and I learned of Shirley's death. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you and your family during this time and always. We fondly remember Shirley's wit, love and all-round kind spirit as we got to know her on our trip together to Montana. We think of her and you often but especially when we are traveling and fishing. We send our love and expressions of sympathy to you and all of your family. --- John.

Our deepest sympathy to all of the family. In our growing years our parents would visit each other and all of us cousins would have great times. Such great memories. What few times we were able to reunite were special moments. Cousin Shirley was a loving and caring soul. We pray God will ease the pain and hurt that the family is going through at this time. You never let go for loving someone. I feel cousin Shirley did God's will in raising a beautiful family, and touching the lives of others. Thanking God for beautiful memories,

To all the Hoover Family,
My deepest sympathy goes out to you. I worked with Shirley at Conewago, but I first met her when my daughter and her grandaughter, Ester, became friends in Kindergarten. She loved all the children she worked with and always had a smile and encouragement to give to the children. What I will always remember about her is the love of Jesus in her heart that would shine brightly everyday.

Eugene...I have special memories of you & Shirley that go back to our teenage years. Shirley was a special person, always with a smile and a helping hand to everyone she met. She was beautiful inside and out. Our families shared alot of good memories throughout the years.
Maria, Susie and Sharon...My heart is breaking for your loss. Draw on your memories to help you when you think you can't take another step, & always remember you have Jesus to lean on.
To the rest of her precious family, We will keep you all in our prayers. My family sends their heartfelt sympathies.

Dear Hoover Family,
I had the pleasure of working with Shirley for a short time when I was a teachers aide back in the 80's. She was a very happy, pleasant person whose light shone brightly. She will always be remembered in my heart. May God grant your family the peace and love that comes in knowing our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

To the Hoover Family,
You may not know me but I was very blessed to have worked with Shirley at Conewago. Although she was willing to do anything that was asked of her, I believe her passion was working with the students who needed the most help. She had so much patience and a true love for the children she worked with. She was proud of you, her family, and would often show it in the stories she would share about you.
You are in my prayers.

Dear Hoover Family,
I first had the pleasure of meeting Shirley when Maria was one of my second grade students. Our paths crossed once again years later when we were both working at Conewago. Shirley was a wonderful person and friend. I will miss her but I know she's in a better place. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
