Thomas MacTavish Obituary

YORK Thomas J. MacTavish, 89, died at 12:48 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Cora G. (Dunlap) MacTavish, who died June 22, 2004. The couple had been married for 64 years. Mr. MacTavish was born July 25, 1917, in Philipsburg, Clearfield County. He was the son of the late William and Mary E. (Quick) MacTavish. He was a lifelong coal miner, retiring in 1972 from Rushton Coal Company in Philipsburg. He was a member of the United Mine Workers and loved to work in his garden, sharing what he raised with family and friends. He was also a member of the Spring Grove Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. MacTavish leaves two sons, Thomas W. MacTavish and wife, Christa, of Lanse, Pa., and Gary D. MacTavish of Howard; four daughters, V. Grace Corderman and husband, Vernon of Trimble, Mo., B. Jean Pizzola and husband, Anthony of Thomasville, Linda K. Mortorff and husband, Richard of Red Lion, and Diane M. Flinchbaugh and husband, Rick of Wallkill, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Barry and Brian Corderman, Mike and David MacTavish, Diane Harris, Tony MacTavish, Sarah Huller, Aaron Mortorff, and Bethany Mortorff; four great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; a step great-greatgrandson; one brother, Walter MacTavish of Woodland, Pa.; and two sisters, Nellie Turner of Morrisdale, Pa., and Effie Walters of Dundalk, Md. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger MacTavish; a grandson, Timothy MacTavish; two brothers, William and James MacTavish; and a sister, Charlotte Haynes. Viewings will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with Elder Neal Cluck officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Grove Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1595 Jefferson Road, Spring Grove, PA 17362.

tom was good to all and i had very good times. playing cards,talking. and just being friends with him and his wife. he and cora will be dearly miss.
