Walter March Obituary

YORK Walter Henry March, Jr., 87, died Friday, December 7, 2007, at Frey Village in Middletown. He was the husband of Violet V. (Lehman) March, who passed away on January 14, 2007. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. W. Michael Langford, officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Born November 7, 1920, in York, a son of the late Walter Henry and Amy Isabelle (Bupp) March, he retired from Precision Components Corp. in 1983 after 32 years of service, including Precision Components predecessors, Allis Chalmers and S. Morgan Smith Co. Mr. March was a combat veteran with the U.S. Army during WWII, where he earned three bronze stars. He was a past member of York City Zoning Board of Adjustments under Mayor John Snyder; life member of both Reliance Fire Co. and 13th Ward Political Club; member of Royal Fire Co., Shiloh American Legion, Post 791; and the 25 Year Club at Allis Chalmers. He was also a member of Messiah United Methodist Church and a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Mr. March is survived by a daughter, LaDonna E. and husband, Kent Zeller of Hummelstown; a son, William Carroll March and wife, Mary March of Cape May, N.J.; three grandchildren, Amy E. and husband, Jason Carr of York, William C. March, II and wife, Leola March of Dallastown, and Megan D. and husband, David Clugh of Carlisle; three great-grandchildren, Emma Carr, Andrew James Sharp, and Maya Clugh; a brother, Richard P. March of York; and a sister, Ruth E. Winter of York. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew David Zeller. Walt was a true and very good friend to me. I always called him my grandpa. Walt and Vi meant the world to me. Walt will be sadly missed but he is at a better place and once again with Vi. My deepest and sincere wishes, Brenda Anderson
