Bonita Dwyer Obituary

Bonita Jean Dwyer

York - Bonita Jean Dwyer, 77, died on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Normandie Ridge.

She was the wife of the late John Dwyer.

Bonita was born in Lewistown, PA on July 8, 1942, daughter of the late Walter A. and Hazel E. (Troutman) Faux. She often spoke fondly about her childhood on Montgomery Avenue in Lewistown, being on the swing set in the backyard and being sung to adoringly by her older sister, Shirley. Bonita's older brother, Rick, would cook grilled cheese and tomato soup for her while their mother worked. This is also the place where the Lord and faith was brought into her life by her best friend, Jean Stuck, whose mother taught Sunday School.

Bonita worked as a registered nurse. Following graduation from nursing school in Philadelphia, she and her girlfriends jumped in a convertible and headed down Route 1 to Miami where they worked at a local hospital. During her career she worked at various facilities including, Margaret E. Moul Home of York, Holy Trinity of Allentown, and the Memory Care Unit in Merritt Island, FL. Bonita's faith was important to her and she loved being called to heal with prayer. She was a member of the church at Normandie Ridge where she resided. Bonita loved gardening, bird watching, spending time with her family, watching baseball games and eating hot dogs. She also loved to dance. As a youth she danced at Sock Hops at the YMCA and later at Normandie Ridge.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer A. Emig and her husband, Steven of York; son, Eric R. Cornelius and his wife, Paula of York; her former husband and friend, Gerald Cornelius; three grandchildren, Nicolas Emig and his companion, Haley Zadroga and children, Brittney Rogerson and her husband, Michael Cooper, and Paul Rogerson; and her sister, Shirley Lommo and her husband, John of Lewistown. She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Faux.

Bonita's family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Dave, Bridgette, and all the staff at Normandie Ridge for all the love they showed during her time there.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
