Scott Shewell Obituary
Scott E. Shewell, 79 entered peacefully into rest Wednesday January 27, 2021 at the home of his daughter in Bluffton, SC. He was the husband of the late Patricia J (McSherry) Shewell. A visitation will be 10-11 am Tuesday May 11, 2021 at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. 902 Mt Rose Ave, York. The celebration of life memorial service will begin at 11am at the funeral home. Full military rites will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard, at the funeral home, prior to the service. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr Shewell was born on May 11, 1941 in York, a son of the late Preston V. Sr. and Mae Elizabeth (Sload) Shewell. He was a graduate of Central York High School in 1959 and York College with a degree in Police Science. He served in the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam War till 1963. He joined Springettsbury Township Police Department in 1963 and retired after 29 years of service. He completed the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA in 1973. He worked at the York County Sheriff's Department as Deputy Sheriff starting in 1971. In 1992 he was appointed Chief Deputy Sheriff under then York County Sheriff Kenneth Markel. In 1997 he was elected as a Constable for Springettsbury Township where he remained until his health started to decline in 2013. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his family. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the York Masons Lodge 266, the American Legion, the York County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73 and York County Shriner's Club.
Scott is survived by his daughters Sheri L Swim & Elizabeth A Shewell; granddaughters Laura C Strausbaugh, Alexandra R. Shewell and Charlotte E. Shewell; six great grandchildren, David, Sierra, Kaylee, Conner, Owen and Emma; and loving extended family. He was a devoted and loved husband and father.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Scott Shewell's name to York County FOP Lodge 73 PO Box 3097 York, PA 17402 c/o Toby Zech.
