Ardith Scott Obituary

Ardith Maxine Scott

September 22, 1925 - November 8, 2025

Ardith Maxine Scott, age 100, of York, Neb. died on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Geneva, Neb. She was born on September 22, 1925, to John F. and Agnes J. (VanWinkle) Skelton in Long Island, Kan. After graduating from Long Island, Ardith married and was blessed with two children, Dennis L. Brown and Dean Brown. They spent time in the Medford, Ore. area.

She returned to Long Island, Kan. and married Emmett Lee Scott in 1951. They moved to York, Neb. in 1953 and welcomed two children: Dana Scott and Dianne Scott. Ardith and Emmett were married for 66 years until Emmett passed away in 2017. Ardith continued to live at her home in York until she was 95, then spent time at Fairview Manor in Fairmont and Heritage Crossings in Geneva.

Ardith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York, Daughters of the Nile, and Meridian Nile Club of York. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing, and traveling in the states and abroad. Ardith loved flying alongside her husband in their airplane, a Cessna 172, and cherished the many business trips they took together for the Scott-Hourigan Company. She also treasured the memories made while traveling with the Shriners Hospital and their RV Club. Ardith enjoyed politics, was intelligent and quick-witted with an enduring sense of humor.

Family was at the heart of Ardith's life. She took great joy in attending her grandchildren's activities and athletic events, always offering her support and encouragement. Ardith made every family member feel special. Known for her thoughtfulness, she never forgot a birthday and made Upside Down Cake (with extra cherries), rhubarb pie and homemade ice cream. She enjoyed hosting family reunions at their home, and cabin on Sack's Lake, where many memories were made.

A true sports fan, Ardith cheered for Nebraska Husker Athletics and was especially fond of the Kansas State Wildcats, following her teams with enthusiasm throughout the years.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis L. Brown and his significant other, Sue Munch of York and Dana and Mary Scott of York; grandchildren, Brandon Brown of Falls City, Neb., Denese (Darren) Sudbeck of Hebron, Neb., Brent (Anie) Brown of York, Zachary (Amanda) Scott of York, Nicholas (Kelsey) Scott of Norfolk, Neb., Ryan (Sarah) Scott of York, Adam (Anna) Scott of Lincoln, Neb., and Curtis (Sydney) Scott of Gretna, Neb.; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Dean; daughter, Dianne; and sister, Arlene Paul.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 14, 2025, at Metz Chapel with the Reverend Mary Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, with her family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. that evening at the mortuary. Following her service, Ardith will be cremated and will be inurned, with her husband Emmett, in Long Island Cemetery in Kansas at a later date. Memorials may be directed to CASA of York County or to the First United Methodist Church for Sunday School. Condolences may be left for her family at metzmortuary.com.
