Roy Kiser Obituary

Roy Lee Kiser, age 77, of York, died Saturday, April 10, 2021 in York. He was born May 19, 1943 in Shelbyville, Mo. to Ernest William and Beulah May (Willey) Kiser. He was the oldest of eight children and lived on a farm his whole childhood. After he graduated from Shelby High School, he then left for the Marines and was stationed in California. While enlisted in the Marines, Roy deployed to Cuba in 1962 for the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the Iwo Jima.
It was in California that Roy and Eve were married Dec. 23, 1962. From this union Roy and Eve had three daughters: Kelly, Kandy and Kimberly. After serving four years in the military, Roy and Eve returned to Missouri and eventually Roy received an associate degree in Business from Wentworth Military Academy and College in Lexington, Mo.
Roy lived in Cedar Rapids for 25 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he taught youth group for thirteen of those 25 years. He was a general manager of the Co-Op until his retirement. After retirement, travel became his favorite hobby. Roy and Eve purchased a motor home and traveled all throughout the United States where Roy went to work for multiple United States National Parks. He loved cars, fishing, hunting, boating and hiking while traveling and even took lessons in square dancing.
Roy was a member of many clubs and organizations, including: The United States Marine Corp (August 1961 – August 1965), the VFW, The American Legion, AFAM Masons Lodge #143 Primrose, NE, Shriners, Jaycee's and was a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Eve of York; daughters, Kelly (Ken) Mostrom of York, Kandy (Joe) Leslie of Spalding and Kim Kiser of Omaha. His grandchildren include: Kyle (Shealy) Mostrom of York, Kendra (Paul) Johnson of McCool Jct., Kayla Mostrom of Missouri, Kody Mostrom of Waco, Jessie (Andrew) Becker of Kearney, Justine (Lane) Knopik of Belgrade, Derek (Rochelle) Bopp of Columbus, Brook Miller, Peyton Miller, and Blake Miller all of Omaha. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Judy Harrison, Donna (Weldon) Mersman; brother, Ernie (Genelle) Kiser; sister-in-law, Barbara Kiser; brothers, David (Tina) Kiser, Joe (Carmen) Kiser and Rob (Patty) Kiser, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Kiser and brother-in-law, Harry Harrison
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Tony Dawson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, York. Visitation will be held from 1 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021 with the family greeting friends from 6 – 8 p.m., at the mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
