Steven Kendall Oquist, age 64, of Clarks, passed away July 17, 2024 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County hospital in Osceola.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home with pastor Evan Christensen officiating. Inurnment will be in the Swede Home cemetery.
Steven was born May 16, 1960 in Osceola to Stanley John and Alice Jane (Anderson) Oquist.
He attended public school in Stromsburg and graduated Stromsburg High school in 1978. He then attended Hastings Community College for two years where he studied mechanics. He was united in marriage to Paula Anderson on April 7, 1984. To this union two children were born.
Steven returned home to farm with his father, eventually taking over the family farm following Stanley's retirement.
Steven loved all things automotive. If you called him on Sunday, chances are you could hear NASCAR in the background. He and his late brother-in-law would spend their summer days farming and then spend countless night hours working on stock cars. They both enjoyed each other's company and Steve often said how proud he was of their "Purple chassis 42" because they built that engine together.
He was also an avid sports fan, which he passed on to his children. He loved his Minnesota Vikings, which rolled over into his son, Andrew. He loved taking Megan and Andy to NFL or NBA games when they were growing up and they always had a fun filled "Map-Quest" road trip story to tell. Steve also enjoyed accompanying his daughter Megan on "date nights" to Husker basketball games.
He loved music and attending concerts. He got to see many bands and singers in his lifetime, and this includes his free "concerts" at home while Linda sang along with her vinyl collection.
Steve's true love came down to his farm. He was a very hard working man who loved the outdoors. He often said he didn't mind the countless hours. As long as he was doing what he loved, it didn't feel like work to him. He was definitely a man that would go the extra mile to help anyone in need.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served on the church board.
Survivors include his children, Megan Oquist of Lincoln and Andrew (Sierra) Oquist of Bemidji, Minn.; mother, Alice Jane Oquist of Stromsburg; sister, Janice (Mark) Forsberg of Grand Island; nephews, Aaron (Kim) Forsberg of Chadron and Gavin (Jenise) Forsberg of Lincoln and niece, Melissa (Aaron) Determan of Lincoln; his partner of 18 years, Linda Anderson of Clarks; three grandchildren, Andie, Riley and Avery Oquist and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Oquist and brother-in-law, Steven Anderson.
