Clint Gold Obituary

Clint C. Gold passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was a long-time resident of Sand Springs and the Tulsa area. A child of the Depression, he was born to C.D. and Pauline (Hughes) Gold on May 4, 1933, in Okmulgee. Clint attended Okmulgee and Dumas, Texas, public schools, and Panhandle A&M. Duty called him into Korean combat service. He was awarded several medals, including three bronze engagement stars, a Korean Presidential Citation, and the China Service Medal for duty in the Formosa Straits. After four years of active military duty, he attended Northeastern State and the University of Oklahoma. A 21-year marriage to Betty Leigh of Okmulgee blessed them with children Mike and Robin. Clint had varied employment. He worked as a pipeline x-ray engineer on the "Tennessee Transmission" from Chicago to Memphis, sold advertising, and gave sales clinics for newspapers across the country. He was a Right of Way Appraiser for the OK Highway Department, Senior V.P. Security Federal Savings & Loan OKC, Regional Director MGIC, the nation's first PMI company for home lenders, chartered a mortgage banking firm for TrendsWestern in OKC, and President Tandy Home Division building in Tulsa. He also became Charter President of First Savings and Loan of Claremore and worked 11 years as Exec VP of Oklahoma Appraisal Co. Early accomplishments included serving as Councilman and Mayor of Moore, during which the largest city park, a new library, and a new hospital were built. Clint was the Charter Pres- ident of the Moore Jaycees. He became a State and National Di- rector of U.S. Jaycees and was selected to appear in "Outstanding Young Men of America" (1964-65 edition –Library of Congress). He served as a Charter President of OKC Loaner Toastmasters; helped charter Moore's new First Christian Church; ACOG Board of Directors for the Oklahoma City area; past Chairman of Claremore United Fund; former Rotarian in OKC, Chickasha, and Claremore; V.P. of American Right of Way Association; Board of Directors on Claremore's Chamber of Commerce; and Life Member of OU Alumni Association. He was selected to appear in "Outstanding Civic Leaders" (1968 edition - Library of Congress) Clint was a charter member of the original Bassmasters in 1967. An avid bird hunter, he enjoyed time at the lake and watching OU football games with his family. A passion- ate reader and writer of history made him a proud Liberal activist, a controversial, outspoken, aggressive voice al- ways within the bounds of reason, and a man of dry, self-deprecating humor. He strived to be a person of integrity and principles. He used to say, "Always be fair to others, never take advantage of a person's labor, and always be your own worst critic." He was a passion- ate editorialist, always in his words, "Looking out for working men and women and pro- viding a voice for those who couldn't speak for themselves." In 1983, a "World without-end bargain" marriage was made with Janice Rae Box of Sand Springs. With Janice Rae as his best friend for almost 40 years, they traveled through life inseparable, traveling in their RV, many books read, family genealogists, strong Democrats, and enjoying family and friends. Clint had a special bond with his son Mike; daughter-in-law Kathy Wilson-Gold; twin grandchildren Michael and Megan Gold; and step-granddaughter Natalie Mikles and her family. He loved his daughter Robin very much as she assisted him when his health began to fail. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margaret. He is survived by his wife Janice; daughter Robin of OKC; son Mike, his wife Kathy; twin grandchildren Michael and Megan of Edmond, sister Paula Timmons of Kansas City, MO; and Janice's children and grand-children. In Lieu of flowers please donate to Tulsa & Creek Counties Senior Nutrition Program or a charity of your choice. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Okmulgee Cemetery. Sanders Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
