Mary Storer Obituary

MARY BRITT STORER Mary Britt Storer was born February 25, 1943, in Washington, D.C., to Eugene and Edith Britt and died August 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Carroway Funeral Home. A private Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Her cremains will be scattered in Encinitas, California, where she met the love of her life. Mary graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1961. After graduation, with $32.00, she left home on a bus headed for Kansas City to go to Flight Attendant school, where she ended up working for Central Airlines. Mary started her family in Arlington, Texas, in 1963, where she had two daughters with her first husband. In 1975, she got her real estate license and later her broker license and moved to Stephenville, Texas. She started the first franchised real estate company in that town. Mary loved real estate and was quite successful at it. She loved helping people purchase a home. Over the years, she won many awards and eventually opened a second office in a nearby town. She loved solving tough problems. When the Savings and Loan crisis hit, she got creative and also started selling foreclosure properties for a bank in Fort Worth. She sold homes and large ranches and was always comfortable doing both. She loved making the deal and was quite good at it. Ultimately, several life events changed the course of her life for the better. So in 1988, she packed up and moved to California to start a new adventure. Mary loved to challenge herself and began biking, where it wasn't uncommon for her to bike 50 to 75 miles in a day. At the age of 57, she biked the Moab Desert in Utah. Mary also, on a daily basis, found the time to roller skate. She loved it and introduced her family to her love of rollerblading by the beach. In June of 2000, she met and eventually married the love of her life. They were true soul mates. Their relationship embodied a deep and abiding love and understanding for one another. They truly had a profound compatibility that was a joy to be around. In true soul mate fashion, they set a course to build a life together, finding deals, traveling, and making so many happy memories that brought true joy to both their lives. In 2003, at the age of 60, Mary and her husband moved to Lufkin and started a rental community, which they built from the ground up. With a lot of hard work and creativity, they ended up with a community they were very proud of. Her love of the ocean had always inspired her to want to scuba dive, but she had a fear of trying. But at 62, she also conquered that fear, with the help of her husband. In 2017, with a dream, a love for Mexico, and the beach, they built a vacation spot that they dreamed would be their retirement home. With a vision and her husband's ability to build anything, they set out to make another dream come true. Mary and her husband loved spending several months out of the year there and made many friends. She never stopped growing, learning, and loving. She had a true zest for life. She was a woman of great conviction who faced life with courage, independence, self-respect, and strength. She was very transformative to many. Stories are surfacing from people who talk about how she inspired them and transformed their lives for the better. She was truly a remarkable woman. "Be like the bird, who halting his flight, on limb too slight, feels it give way beneath him, yet sings, knowing he hath wings." Author unknown. Mary Britt Storer is preceded in death by her parents.
