Dave Ross, 83, reached the finish line peacefully on November 20, 2021.

He is survived by his son, Ron, and his brother, Jim. His partner of 28 years, Jeanne Mitchell, passed 2 months earlier.

Dave showed great athletic talent early, setting high school sprint records and winning the 1956 California Interscholastic Federation championship in the 440 yards. His record time for that race still stands at his high school after 65 years. He excelled as a receiver in football and his connection to Arizona began when he signed to play football for the U of A Wildcats. In 1960 he was drafted into the NFL by the Detroit Lions. His career was cut short with a knee injury in 1964.

Dave started a successful business and moved his family to Huntington Harbor, CA, where his love of flying culminated in his receiving his private single-engine pilots license. Much of his time was spent in the air with family and friends. During this time Dave developed a passion for indoor (4 wall) handball, and ever the intense competitor, went on to win a national doubles championship.

Upon retirement he got the travel bug and after settling down in Yuma with Jeanne, purchased a motorhome and each summer between May and October traveled Mexico and throughout North America.

Dave will be remembered for his humor, generosity, competitiveness, and his adventurous spirit.

Ron and Jim would like to give heartfelt thanks to Ativo Senior Living of Yuma for giving our loved one excellent care and attention his last month as he strode to his final finish line.
