Nancy Thompson Obituary

Nancy Ann Schoenfeld Thompson

May 14, 1935 - September 12, 2025

Nancy Ann Thompson, 90, of Yuma, Arizona, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. She was born on May 14, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Throughout her life, Nancy was deeply committed to service and philanthropy. From 1971 through the early 1980s, she was instrumental in the creation and leadership of several nonprofit and volunteer organizations, including T.R.O.T.H., Special Olympics, Camp Fire Boys and Girls, and Marriage and Youth Encounters. Her passion for building communities of care touched countless lives and left a lasting legacy.

Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she served as a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart in Coronado, California; St. Brigid in Pacific Beach, California; and St. John Neumann in Yuma, Arizona.

In 1986, Nancy moved to the San Diego area, where she and her husband, Pete, made their home in Coronado for 14 years. During that time, they enjoyed life on the water, spending eight memorable years living aboard their boat at the Coronado Yacht Club.

Travel was one of Nancy's greatest joys. Between 2004 and 2015, she and Pete traveled the country in their RV, visiting all 48 contiguous states together. Their love of adventure also took them across the globe, where they explored more than 20 countries and created countless treasured memories.

Nancy and Pete returned to Yuma in 2010, settling in the Yuma East Community, where they have lived for the past 15 years. It quickly became a place they loved, thanks to the close-knit friendships and sense of belonging they found there. Nancy was an active

member of many organizations, including P.E.O. Chapter Q, where she served as president, recording secretary, and guard. She was also a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 476, where she proudly served as president of the Elks Auxiliary.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Pete Thompson; her children, Cathy Wilkerson, Dan Schoenfeld, Susy Dorsey, their spouses, and David Schoenfeld; eight cherished grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.

She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, adventurous spirit, and devotion to her family, friends, and community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Yuma East on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the P.E.O. Chapter Q in Nancy's name, continuing her legacy of supporting education and opportunity for others. Donations may be sent to: P.E.O. Chapter Q, c/o Cheryl Taylor, 6576 E. Mountain View Place,
