Sergeant Phil Rojas was one hell of a soldier, husband, father, and citizen. Sgt Rojas served in the Arizona Army National Guard under my command with the 852nd MP Company. He was second to none. He worked tirelessly with courage, pride, and professionalism, instilling those around him, with what it means to be a "Bushmaster". He trained his comrades around him. His smile, expertise, and attitude reached out to all those who knew him. He exemplifies all that are known as "BUSHMASTERS". He was a true friend and I will miss him until I too can join his final formation in Heaven.

Philip M. Rojas was a man of honor, integrity, hard work, and compassion, full of love and an unwavering sense of duty to his family.

His life was one of great humility and great pride. I sat rapt as he told of his childhood home in Somerton, the long, low adobe house he grew up in, and the hard life he lived there. But he wasn´t complaining; he was just marveling at how life was so much easier these days. And he was proud to share the culture of his Yaqui heritage, the heritage of my children and theirs, and he spoke of it often. I was honored and happy that he commissioned me to create art pieces for him that reflected the Yaqui culture. He spoke of the bravery and valiant fighting of the 158th Infantry Battalion (Bushmasters) in the Pacific theater of WWII, and was proud to serve his country through the Arizona National Guard. I will miss those talks with him.

He was a man of uncommon common sense, and will always be one of my heroes, certainly one of the best people I´ve ever known.

Philip Sr. was my Godfather. I remember my mother, Margarita M. Lopez always telling me he was the one being asked to assist a family member in time of need. To me he was a mentor, relaying stories about his time in the military to me as I went through my time in the Army. I listened and learned from his stories. He's made the journey to his resting place for a job well done in serving his family, friends and coworkers.
