Raul Durazo Obituary

Raul Durazo, Sr.

October 12, 1931 March 30, 2022

Raul Durazo, Sr. passed away on March 30th at his home in Holtville, CA.

Prior to moving to Holtville, Raul resided in Somerton, AZ with his wife Lola where they raised their four children. Raul was born in 1931 in Douglas, AZ. He graduated from Douglas High in 1951. Following high school, Raul joined the army and served during theKorean War. After his stint in the army, Raul returned to Arizona and attended Arizona State College (Arizona State College became Arizona State University in 1958). While he was in college, Raul met his future wife, Lola, in a Spanish Literature class. They married in 1957 and lived in Douglas. They also lived in Tucson and Yuma before moving to Somerton in 1971. Raul passed away on what would have been their 65th wedding anniversary. Raul had a career as an Insurance Adjuster first with General Adjustment Bureau (GAB) and later owning his own Insurance Claims Company. Raul was an active parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Somerton. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and raising turtles. Raul had a keen ability at solving puzzles and in the recent past enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune with family, often guessing the answers before the game show participants.

Raul passed away due to natural causes. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his four children in person and by Zoom, who he adored. Family was everything to him. We, his children, feel very privileged to have had the best dad that life on earth has to offer.

Raul was preceded in death by his wife Lola, parents (Jesus & Maria Durazo), brothers (Laureano, Armando and Robert Durazo), sisters (Maria Alicia Teran and Lydia Bicolis) and his grandson Adam Brooks Anderholt. Of special note, Raul was very close to his older brother Robert in both age and relationship. Robert passed away 15 hours prior to Raul.

Raul is survived by his children Laura (Dennis) Murcko, Gloria (Brooks) Anderholt, Raul Jr. (Ana) Durazo, and Marcia (Richard) Agnew; his grandchildren Bryan Murcko, Marissa Murcko, Louie Anderholt, James (Ceci) Anderholt, Diana Durazo and her fianc Adam Rushing; his great grandchildren Lou, Louie & Lucia Anderholt. He is also survived by his two sisters Leticia Navarro and Concepcion Manzo.

A Celebration of Raul's Life will be held on Saturday, 4/23/22.
