Roy E. Walter

1942 - 2018

Roy was born in Kearney, Nebraska, 8th of 10 children, to Raymond and Ula (Fuqua) Walter. Roy crossed the Bar peacefully at Yuma Regional Medical Center, Yuma, AZ surrounded by family and under the care of an excellent team of doctors and the TLC of the nursing staff and technicians, after battling Lung disease since 1982.

After basic training, Roy served aboard the USS Providence during the Vietnam and Korean conflicts. While aboard, he re-enlisted and became a Seabee. This training took him to Spain and Cuba. He served aboard a cable tender off Maine and last duty was at the SERE Training Facility, Warner Springs, CA. Roy's mechanical training allowed him to work for Case International, U.S. Steel and Borrego Harvesting. The agriculture brought him to Yuma in 1989, where he worked for Umphress, Valley Sand and Gravel, Kelland and Zeller, before health prompted his retirement.

Roy is survived by his loving wife and partner of 24 years, Paula Fuller-Walter. Sons; Robert Walter (Atlanta, GA), Slade Walter (Denver, CO). Stepchildren; Shael (Eddie) Blaylock (Festus, MO), Raichel (Brad) Dunn (Oneida, FL), Joyce (Felix) Gutierrez (Kissimmee, FL), Bruce Mathew (Rebecca) Cypert (Virginia Beach, VA) and Ross O. Cypert (Holywood, FL). Sisters; Agnes Rockwell (Denver, CO), Janet (Larry) Jones (Loveland CO), Wanita Walter (Pueblo, CO). Brother; Kenneth (Imogene) Walter (Pueblo, CO), along with many nieces and nephews.

Roy was also a Life Member of VFW 8242 and held several offices and chairmanships over the years. The VFW's motto is "We honor the dead by supporting the living." There will be two (2) Memorials, one in Yuma sometime in April and one (1) in Pueblo, CO in June. Kammann Mortuary is handling the cremation.
