Stephen Shields Obituary

Stephen Ray Shields at age 63, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in Oro Valley, Arizona after a long extended illness. He was born June 29, 1947 in Oakland, California.
Stephen attended San Diego University and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1971. He then went to Loyola University of Dentistry in Chicago where he graduated in 1975. He served as a U.S.A.F dentist between 1975 and 1979. He then practiced dentistry in Yuma for over 20 years, before retiring. Stephen was active in the LDS church and a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf. He loved others and enjoyed the ocean in San Diego. He loved to play and tease his grandchildren.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Janet Shields; sons, John (Lilly) Shields, Mark Shields, Mike Shields; daughter, Tamara (Rex) Sampsell; stepson, J.C (Lauren) Sandberg; stepdaughters, Michelle Sandberg, Nicole (David) Hepworth; mother, Evelyn Vilate Shields; sister, Judy (David) Tilman, Becky (Frank) Green; 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stephen is preceded in death by his father, Ray Shields.
Visitation will be held at LDS Stake Center, 4300 W 16th Street on March 26, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. with services to follow at 10:00 a.m. Stephen will be laid to rest at Desert Lawn Memorial park.
Pallbearers will be John Shields, Mike Shields, J.C. Sandberg, Mark Shields, Rex Sampsell and David Hepworth. In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to John Goelleher, Director Clare Bridge of Oro Valley Employees Fund, 10175 N. Oracle Rd. Tucson, AZ 85737.

To Dr. Shields family: I worked for Dr. Shields from 1991 to 1995 as back office and front office. I also sat his two younger boys Mark and Mikey. I loved them all. Dr. Shields was a wonderful man and boss and a good friend to me and my husband. I know that he will be missed terribly. Please give my love to the boys, they were/are my good friends.
