Mr. Steven Standlee Dick Senior, passed away July 20, 2009 in Durango, Colorado of cancer. Steven was born in Yuma on October 18, 1950, the son of Maxine McCain Dick and Samuel Dick III. Steven's last days were spent in Durango surrounded by family at their Falls Creek Ranch cabin, which he referred to as "paradise"; a place of solace where he relaxed with his mother, wife and sons.
Steven attended Crane Elementary and Kofa High School, Yuma Valley, AZ., Northern Arizona University, BA, 1970, and Arizona State University, MBA, 1972. Steven was first married to Linda Lakey and divorced after 18 years and four children. His second marriage to his soul mate, Joan Heil, happened after 13 joyous years together, on November 23, 2004 at the Four Seasons Peninsula, Costa Rica.
Steven was founder and President of Micon Consulting for 23 years. He was an expert adviser to senior executives in the utility and public sector industries. He transformed the industry approach to business case development for large scale software system replacement. Prior to forming Micon, he was an Executive with Arthur Anderson for 11 years.
Steven was a passionate family man and entrepreneur; an encouraging facilitator, fulfilling the dreams of his and others. He had an incredible work ethic and he demonstrated genuine love and generosity to those with which he shared his life. He derived these traits from growing up in a Yuma Valley family farming legacy, and he demonstrated them in all facets of his life. He was a skilled farmer and athlete, an unconditional father, a loving husband, astute businessman, and faithful friend.
Steven is survived by survived by his Mother, Maxine McCain Dick, Wife Joan Heil, Sons Steven Dick Jr. and Taylor McCain, Sister Lille Whitley and her husband Dwight "Skip" Whitley, Grandson Alexander McCain Jr., as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.
Steven was preceded in death by his Father, Samuel Dick III, Brother, Samuel Dick II, and two of his four Sons, Kyle Benjamin Dick and Alexander Patrick McCain.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at his home in Ahwatukee, 409 East Windmere Dr., Phoenix, Arizona 85048. The family requests that all guests please RSVP via e-mail to
