F. Robert "Bob" Mealey

NASHPORT: F. Robert "Bob" Mealey, 71, of Nashport, entered the gates of heaven at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 to reunite with loved ones. He was born May 16, 1941, in Ireland, WV, at the home of his late parents, Fred and Mabel Lowther Mealey.

He retired in 1999 from Alvan Motorfreight. Upon his retirement, he was able to devote more time to raising Black Angus cattle and working the family farm. He was an active member of North Terrace Church of Christ, where he started a nursing home ministry visiting patients at Sunnyview Nursing Home. He touched the lives of many people there and loved playing Santa Claus each year at their annual Christmas party. Throughout his battle with cancer, he never lost his positive attitude, his compassion for others, or the ability to wake up each morning praising God for all the blessings he'd been given. He truly was a remarkable, inspirational man.

He leaves behind to treasure his memory, his beloved wife of 35 years, Lynette (Pieper) Mealey; children, Robert (Tammy) Mealey, Erin (Scott) Welker and Tim (Jody) Mealey; the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Chad and Brandon Mealey, Brock, Ben and Laine Welker, Hayden, Nicholas and Abby Mealey; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Pieper; a sister-in-law, Suella Pieper; a brother-in-law, Norris (Johnna) Pieper; sisters, Arlene (Ken) Hickman and Judy (Lonnie) Ramsey; nieces and nephews; a multitude of friends and wonderful neighbors, specifically John Pidcock and Steve and Janet Harper who were steadfast in their support and friendship; and a host of kids he considered as extended grandchildren that would come to visit, play x-box and eat with him. He was lovingly known as "Da" to everyone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dan Pieper.

The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Wegner, Carrie Lee, all the staff at Genesis Hematology & Cancer Treatment Center and the nurses at Genesis Home Hospice for their never ending compassion and care.

Per Bob's request, a caring cremation will take place so that he may return to the family farm.

In lieu of calling hours, the family requests that you use that time to visit an old friend or relative that you need to reconnect with.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W MILITARY RD., ZANESVILLE with Mr. William Meaige officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care, 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Ohio 43701 in Bob's memory.
