William Arbaugh Sr.

ZANESVILLE: William Arbaugh Sr., 92, of Zanesville, passed away Thursday July 12, 2012 at Cedar Hill Care Center with his family by his side. He was born on May 5th, 1920 in Zanesville. The son of the late Norris and Anna "Turnbull" Arbaugh.

He married Betty "Pugh" Arbaugh, June 26, 1947 and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Survived by two sons Thomas and Betty Arbaugh of Shertz, Texas, William Jr. and Valerie Arbaugh of Zanesville, one daughter Kaye and Fred Snyder of Zanesville, six grandchildren, Jeff and Cathy Arbaugh, Leslie and Michael Vasquez all of Texas, Troy Arbaugh of Columbus, Trisha and Jobie Morrow of Black Lick, Eric Perry of Roseville, Brent and Stephanie Perry of Roseville. He also has four great-grandchildren, sister Nancy Simmons of New Smyrma Beach Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Robert "Bob" Arbaugh, Ronald "Joe" Arbaugh and one daughter Janet Lynn "Sissy" Arbaugh.

He attended Grover Cleveland High School and in his early years was a Inner city bus driver but retired from Rockwell International after 30 years of service. After retirement he worked part time for McHugh's and Balderson's auto dealers driving cars till the age of 80.

He was a avid train lover as his dad was a motorman on the Interurban rail-road. He had traveled to different states across the country just to ride the many trains in the U.S and Canada.

After retirement Betty and him loved to travel, over the years they traveled cross country from coast to coast and Canada.

He loved the Big Band music and was known to make copies of it for many of his friends and family to enjoy also.

In the 1960's he was assistant fire chief for the Newton Volunteer Fire Dept. He has been a member of Eagles 302 for several years. Their will be no calling hours observed a direct cremation with a graveside service will take place 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Friday July 20, 2012 with Herb Perry officiating. A meal for family and friends will follow directly after the service at the American Legion Post 29, 27 S 3rd St. Zanesville, OH 43701.

DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio or the Muskingum County Animal Shelter in William Arbaugh Sr. name.
