Gary Foster Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

FOSTER, Gary GARY D. FOSTER On July 19th, 2009, another beautiful day in paradise, Gary D. Foster left this world for a new adventure. Gary was most unusual. He was a chameleon, a philanthropist and a collector of countless intriguing bits, always into learning, teaching and helping. He had an intense spiritual interest in the world and the universe, fascination with the passage of time, history, philosophy, science and archeology, but he also had an astute sense of the absurd. Gary D. Foster kept the faith with the heart of an original hippie. He was prepared. Gary came into the world in Ohio, and spent his early years in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He and his wife, Nancy Anne Johnson Foster, lived in the mountains of North Georgia in a perfect world on the river in Ellijay at a cabin he called "Cythera" , also known as "Fuzzy's on the Cartecay", and at their dollhouse with a gorgeous distant view of Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia. He was active in Ellijay, and blazed trails literally and figuratively in areas surrounding his cabin. He created the annual Chili Run on the Cartecay River held yearly at Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions for the many years that followed. Gary graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1969, and moved to Atlanta in the late 70's. He worked at Wolf Camera and Video for twenty-one years, where he progressed to Senior Buyer. Gary is survived by: wife Nancy Anne; daughter, Angela Foster Banks; brother Charles Eugene Foster; 2 grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles. Gary leaves us his legacy: a lasting passion for the North Georgia mountains and peace on the river. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Patterson's Spring Hill. Funeral will take place Wednesday, July 22nd at 2 o'clock from the graveside at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery. 3725 Powers Ferry Road NW Atlanta GA 30342. The procession will leave Spring Hill at 1:30 PM. H. M. Patterson, Spring Hill, is in charge of the arrangements. "Peace, peace! he is not dead, he doth not sleep He hath awakened from the dream of life." Percy Bysshe Shelley

Live Forever (Billy Joe Shaver, Eddy Shaver)

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

You're gonna want to hold me
Just like I've always told you
You're going to miss me when I'm gone

Nobody here will ever find me
But I will always be around
Just like the songs I leave behind me
I'm gonna live forever now

You fathers and you mothers
Be good to one another
Please try to raise your children right
Don't let the darkness take 'em
Don't let 'em feel forsaken
Just lead them safely to the light

When this old world has blown us under
And all the stars fall from the sky
Remember someone really loves you
We'll live forever you and I

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

I'm gonna live forever now
I'm gonna live forever now
I'm gonna live forever now
I'm gonna live forever now

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now

Hell-o my name is David Will. Gary (Fuzzy) and I graduated in Crawfordsville class of 1969. We had glorious times together and were like brothers in those days. From the entries I have read from his new friends it sounds like he was the same joyful and inspiring person I knew and loved. I have thought of him often since those times. I was not suprised to hear he was a spiritual man, "i am not my body, my body is what i have not what i am" and I know he is on the next leg of this grand adventure. We will meet again. Blessings to you, Gary's family. Sincerely, David Will

Nancy, I was deeply saddened to learn of Gary's passing. I remember when I first met Gary at Francis the 14th and was immediately taken with his easy manner and engaging personality. Oh my, the stories and memories I treasure
with Fuzzy. Gary was an incredibly kind soul, and I cannot imagine the sense of loss you feel. I will be in touch with your soon...Jack

Gary was the first 'Wolf Camera' employee I met, on the loading dock of the 14th. street store in 1983. I had just started my acrylic frame business and "Gary" sincerely wished me the best of luck and suggested how we might make a better product. His humor and warm spirit left a life-long impression on me. L' Chaim!

Dear Nancy and Angela,
I am so sorry I missed the service yesterday, I didn't find out where it was in time. I feel a terrible sense of loss and I'm sorry I didn't make more of an effort to see Gary recently.
In addition to being a favorite customer I considered Gary to be a great friend. This is a reminder to me to keep in touch with people you care about because there isn't always a tomorrow. My fondest memories of Gary are when we toured NYC while working trade shows and swapping advice on how best to raise our daughters. I do believe Gary is in a better place and you are all in my prayers.

Fuzzy was a good friend of my brothers back in Crawfordsville, Ind. Everytime I drive on Morgan Street in Crawfordsville, where his mom lived, I think about him. He was full of live and the times I would see him when he livd here, he always had a smile. I know he will truly be missed. You are all in my prayers.

Gary was the one person that never would say no and that you could always depend on. His personality was always upbeat and his loyality to me and our company was never taken lightly.
I thought of him as a friend and we all will miss him dearly.

Gary is as solid guy as I have ever known - able to see and express peace and joy in so many truly beautiful people and things. When I sometimes found myself caught up in the mundane or the complicated, his harmony made me slow down and appreciate what was truly cool and meaningful.

I miss having a cabin nearby in Ellijay, for the most part, because I miss visiting with Fuzzy and Nancy. I think about Tahoe often because I remember a guy in as joyful a mood, for most of the time, as you would ever see. I'll visit Gainseville often, to reminisce with Nancy and to see that she carries on safely and with her own joy.

Peace to all the family and friends. Be like Fuzzy.

The last time I saw Gary was 20 years ago at our 20th Crawfordsville High School reunion. He was full of life and mischief and provided me with a story so hysterical it has lived and been retold hundreds of times over these past 20. I'll miss him and his joie de vivre

Such a wonderful tribute, and you could not have chosen a better picture, Nancy! I am so sad for you, but I think you know he fought a good fight because he truly adored you.

Nancy, I am so sad that Gary has left our world, but I continue to be awed by your strength, your keen insights and your sincere love for Gary.

Gary, I can see you sitting in your chair on your backporch, overlooking your beloved Cartecay, with Nancy by your side. Thanks for all the fun, the funnies, the gifts and the giffies and for your kindness. Your legacy lives with us and in the river.

The last time I saw Gary he was sitting on the porch of the cabin watching the Cartecay flow lazily by- a visual etched in my mind forever.

He was more than a coworker and true friend - he was Fuzzy. You will be missed by all of those you touched in life. Safe travels my friend.

Nancy, I am sad beyond words that Gary has left us, but I am awed by your strength, your courage and your sound decision-making in these last weeks of the ebbs and flows of hope. Your undying love and devotion to Gary is clear.

I can see you, Fuzzy, sitting in YOUR chair on your back porch overlooking your beloved Cartecay with Nancy, your chosen bride. I see you you tromping through the woods, blazing trails in your Paradise. Laughing and loving life and, of course, your Nancy. I will relive my rollicking memories of you. Fuzzy Abides.

We all know that Gary & Fuzzy were two completely different people. Gary was there to comfort you in those times of need. Fuzzy gave you comfort that what you & him were about to do was rational. Ha!

Stories? Too many to mention & some I'm still trying to forget. Gary was a great person. Fuzzy was even a greater experience. I'll miss him.

Even though Gary moved South, Crawfordsville was always in his heart. This past Spring, the girls basketball team advanced in the state tourney. Gary happen to call that morning & I told him the girls had won the first game that morning. He ask that I phone him back that night with the results of the evening game. He knew no players on the team, but, it was his Crawfordsville Athenians.

He always talked of making it back to Crawfordsville. He's looking down upon it now.

Nancy, Angela & Joshua, Gene & Marci; My thoughts & prayers are with you. Sorry I couldn't make it back, however, I feel Gary knows that I am there.

And Fuzzy, Fedex called & your tickets have been delivered.
