I knew Sgt Bell from our days at 2TANK BN. I work under him for more than four years. I served in the first OIF with him. I had him pin my Seargent chevrons on me when my time came. He led by example, he was never a me first kinda person. That's the kind of Marine that was taken way to early from his family and friends. I just want to say that the world lost a great man. I never got a chance to say thank you to him for all he taught me. Thank you Sgt Bell. Gone but not forgotten. SEMPER FI

Missy, Katrazyna, Taylor, Jerry III, Aunt Tammy, Uncle Jerry, Stacey, TJ. I want to say that I am truly sorry for what happened. I am very proud of Jerry and will always remember everything that we did while growing up together (all the good and bad, not that we did bad things though). I'm very deeply sorry for not being there for the funeral and I hope that you all fully understand the situation. I have been thinking of so many things that I want to do in rememberance of Jerry and will fill you in for your approval and advice when I return to the States next Spring/Summer. Jerry, it has been a great pleasure to serve in the military with you and on the same battle field as you (Afghanistan). You will never be forgotten and always in my thoughts. Albert Pike once wrote:
what we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; but what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.

As a fellow Warrior in this fight against terror my heart goes out to all Jerome's family. I new him from when I was very little. I grew up with his brother TJ, and all the time I have known him I always new him to be an angle whose kind heart shown above so many others. I too have felt the pain of loss, but just know that time heals all sorrow and then you realize that you have another angle looking out for you. Perhaps you can even sleep better at night knowing that you have someone like Jerome C. Bell Jr. looking out for us all. Take heart in knowing that SRG. Bell will never be forgotten by anyone. Especially by the Armed Forces of the United States of America. He will always be alive within our hearts, always....

I just want you to know from my heart how sorry I am for your loss.
I have a son who is following his passion and is leaving soon for basic training. I will pray for him like you did for Sargent Bell and all the others. Your young man is now in heaven...where soldiers live in peace and angels sing amazing grace....

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

From the halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From the dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And have never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

THANK YOU SGT. BELL FOR YOUR SERVICE AND THE SACRIFICE YOU MADE FOR OUR GREAT COUNTRY. SEMPER FI.

The Marine's Prayer:

Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family.

Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my Country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.

If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again.

Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer.

September 27, 2008

My heart is breaking for all of you. Jerry,Missy and their beautiful children became a part of my family when they befriended my daughter Danielle in Twentynine Palms during her husband's deployment in Iraq last year. I was with Danielle Friday evening when she got the terrible news of Jerry's death. As a disabled Navy veteran I have seen the price our military families pay up close almost daily, and the Bell family is paying the highest price of all! Our nation owes them a debt they'll never be able to repay.

Tammy, your loss is so humbling, but I know you will stand strong as a mom for those around you. I have been feeling an emptiness in my sole for you. Your son's sacrifice for America and his family will not be forgotten, as another chair stands empty at the table of freedom.

To Missy and family...

My heart goes out to all of you. My heart broke when I found out about Jerry's passing Saturday morning. I keep saying how much I loved hearing, or actually reading (we kept in touch throuch MySpace and emails) about Jerry and how everytime he called her and how much she looked forward to his calls...and when they hung up, she couldn't wait until the next time he called her. I have known Missy since we were in elementary school at Casey Park. She moved to Throop but we still remained friends. And even when she moved all over the place, we still kept our friendship alive. Our children are all around the same ages as well. This deployment has been harder than ever for her, but I look up to her for how strong she has, is, and forever will be. I also keep saying that Jerry and Missy had a love that could be envied. It was so genuine. Jerry will live on in our hearts. He is a TRUE hero...as is Missy. Missy...I love you girlfriend!! You know that but I keep saying it over and over. You are so brave. I admire that...please be strong and know he is with you and the kids every step of the way. He would be proud how you have stood your ground as a proud Marine wife. RIP JERRY

He was a great husband, father, son, brother, son-n-law, nephew, cousin, uncle, neighbor, friend, and a true AMERICAN HERO; THE MARINE WHO SERVED HIS COUNTRY OVER AND OVER , THANK YOU JERRY YOU WILL BE MISSED MORE THAN YOU KNOW. You and your family will be in our prayers, GOD BLESS.

I knew Sgt. Jerome Bell both professionally and personnally. I was his patrol leader with 2/7 on his last deployment to Iraq. Jerome was an outstanding Marine and leader of Men. He always put the welfare of his Marines above his own. He would volunteer to take another mission with me or pull an extra duty so those under his charge could get some sleep or eat a hot meal. That was the type of person he was, always thinking of others. The world and my life have been enriched just by knowing Jerome. I know he is on post at the gates of heaven watching over us all. My deepest condollences to his family. If there is ever anything I can do, do not hesistate to contact me.
