I never knew Joe personally, but quite often saw him around campus here at Keuka. I remember holding the door for him a few times, even though he beat me to hitting the button for the automatic open. It was those awkward funny moments that you share with someone you dont know that make you think what if i knew him better? i know joe was a great guy, and he was definitely part of the keuka family. this is a very sad loss. :(

I used to work with Joe at Walmart and he was always a freindly person. He always had a smile and was polite when ever you talked to him. He will be missed at Walmart. For someone working so hard to help others its a shame to have lost him. Guess god has other ideas for him. He is now an angle in the sky. He always takes the best ones.

Jessa Jacoby

October 17, 2008

My name is Jessa Jacoby and I have been friends with Joe since 6th grade. It pains me to learn that he passed away too late to attend services, but my condolences are with his family and friends. I wrote a poem for Joe...

Life in a chair
Doesn't seem fair
For someone so kind and so true.
With a smile on his face,
He wheeled from place to place,
Touching the lives of everyone he knew.
From the 6th grade right on,
He never missed a song.
We even got to dance a time or two.
Why make him this way?
Why test him every day?
Why take him before his life was due?
The best of people are dealt the worst hands
While the worst of humans are ruling the lands.
Would you still smile if this happened to you?
Through operations and pain,
He somehow stayed sane
And now he watches and carries us through.
Do not mourn his loss,
For he is with us in the frost,
In the wind, in the flowers and morning dew.
Joe would want us to smile
And live our lives, while
We honour him in all that we do.

Rest now, Joe. I will always love you.

As a parent figure your supposed to teach your children, Joe was the exception! I learned more from Joe than the little i tried to teach him. I am still learning as i talk now with his friends and family. Joe was always more concerned with others, there health, welfare and safety than his own. He was a giver never a taker and you never heard Joe complain about his life,Health or disability's. I will be forever grateful for the time he was in my life and will always have him in my heart! God Bless you Joe and Thank You for all the things you shared with me.... Gary Pelkey

May you take comfort in knowing that ALL of you made Joey the wonderful young man he came to be. His sense of humor, his determination, and his stong will are all because of the greatness of the people around him. He will be greatly missed. We are so happy we were able to see you all earlier this year, and grateful that we were able to see Joey. He had grown into such a fine young man, a man to be proud of. He is with the angels now, smiling (like always), and running wild and free. We will miss you Joey. You are an inspiration to us all to keep fighting, keep going no matter what the weather. Love ya buddy....Big hugs to all of you up there in N.Y. wish we could be there.

I’m sorry to learn of Joe’s passing. I knew Joe when we were young – we still are young, making this even more difficult. He was a true survivor with great heart & will. We watched each other grow up from babies on into grammar school, BOCES, & CCC, even now around the community. He moved away & came home so we grew distant, unfortunately. Though we always recognized each other and took the opportunity to converse as permitted. Knowing Joe in part helped me to be a better person in a multitude of ways although he may have never been aware. The personality and character of this man will be missed. His presence and smile will be remembered. I thought of him today actually when I walked to Seward with a friend, reminiscing of the times we had spent there, only to find out when I returned home, of his sudden death. It is an honor to have known Joe even though only for brief intervals of time.

With loving memory, my condolences go out to his family and friends.

To the family and friends of Joseph:
I am sorry for your loss. Joe was always smiling and happy to wait on us and we loved to chit chat with him. One day I saw him on Grant Avenue on his way to work in the pouring rain. My husband and I had pulled over to see if he wanted a ride, his reply was," no thanks I will be just fine I do this all the time, thanks for asking and have a nice day." What an inspiration he was. I will miss him at Walmart as I know many of his customers will. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you, for the loss of such a fine young man.

My thoughts and prayers are with Joe and his family. I met Joe years ago when we both attended Second Baptist Church. He was always such a nice guy. It was great getting to know him through the youth group. Since then I would always see and talk to him at Walmart, or whenever I would see him around Auburn. It is quite a shock to me that he is gone as I just saw him riding down Seward Street the other day. I really hope that his life can be celebrated as an inspiration to others. He accomplished so much in his short life, and he always would had a smile for anyone who came his way. Joe is gone home now but he will be missed.
