Paula Shaw Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 18 to Sep. 19, 2025.
Paula Shaw, a versatile actress beloved by Hallmark Channel viewers and horror fans alike, died September 10, 2025, in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was 84.

Born July 17, 1941, Shaw was best known to horror movie fans for taking over the role of Pamela Voorhees in "Freddy vs. Jason." She also appeared in "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "Reindeer Games," and Christopher Nolan's "Insomnia." On television, she worked on "The Bob Newhart Show," "Barney Miller," "Three's Company," "The X-Files," "Supernatural," and more.

Hallmark audiences knew her as Charlotte Jeffers on the series "Cedar Cove," as well as from such holiday films as "Five Star Christmas," "It Was Always You," "A Mrs. Miracle Christmas," and "Hanukkah on Rye." Colleagues remembered her warmth and humor.

Beyond screen work, Shaw spent decades teaching The Max, a demanding self-expression workshop she led at the Esalen Institute and internationally. Alumni credit her with life-changing guidance.

News of her death was shared by her workshop's website, which noted she "passed away peacefully" on the morning of September 10. Memorial gatherings are being planned in Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Big Sur, as well as online.

Paula Shaw a great actress ( the best). Loved all Hallmark Christmas movies she was in. First got to know her in those movies. She reminded me of my late Mother in looks and actions. She truly played the role she was in. A grandmother feature for sure. Sad she is gone and will miss her. We were hoping she would be in some Hallmark Christmas movies this year. Tyler Hynes paid a real tribute to her. RIP PAULA.

Fairly and I were saddened to learn of Paula's passing just now. She was our mentor and teacher at Esalen in 2000, and we became close friends in later years, spending countless hours together in each others' homes in Los Angeles. A wonderful actor and coach, we learned so much from her over the years. We will greatly miss this lovely, talented and authentic lady. Our sincere condolences go out to her family and many friends.
