I worked with Bill at Bergen Printing Plates in 1971. He was a great teacher, very patient with me and supportive. I'm sorry we didn't work together longer, but he taught me valuable life lessons that still guide me today.

To Bill's Family,
I am only now reading here about your father's passing. I worked for your Dad at Bergen Printing Plates one summer many years ago, and still remember him fondly as one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of working for. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

It is with great sadness and deep respect that we pay tribute to a wonderful human being who has passed on to the spirit realm. Bill was down to earth and practical. "You want a business partner, get a monkey, can't sign your check book" Great father, leader, businessman, maverick. An all around out of the box thinker.

Kathy, Bill and Mrs. Hess,

I'm very sorry for your loss. I always felt very comfortable in your home, and much of that was due to the kind manner of your father. I recall him as a very relaxed and happy man, who was very supportive of his family, and his community. I fondly recall hot days swimming in your pool, and cool fall days picking apples in your yard, and once making apple cider with a contraption your Dad bought - I think it was an antique. As well as playing pool in your garage, and I seem to recall a moped during the gas shortage of the '70's. It was a happy and lucky opportunity when I happened to stop by your SR home just after your sold it but before your move and getting to see him and you before moving away. I wish you all peace and healing as you move forward from your loss.

My father and Bill Hess Sr worked together at the New York Times years ago. My early memory of him is that whenever I visited Billy, his son and my friend, and stayed overnight, Mr. Hess would get up on Sunday morning to drive me to Mass, even though he was not Catholic himself.

I also remember when he worked as a policeman, that at traffic stops, he didn't give out many tickets, but he gave lots of lectures.

He was was a great husband, father and man.

May he rest in peace.

To my dearest father and my very best friend-- You believed in me when I did not believe in myself. You invested a significant amount of time being with me and teaching me about life. You stood behind me and gently directed me, and you prayed for me. You phoned me several times each week and encouraged me. You sacrificed vacations and took on a second job as a police officer, risking your life so that I could attend college. I could NEVER begin to repay you for all that you have done for me. You were with me for a very short 53 years, and the three or four decades that the Lord might allow me to live without you will seem to me like an eternity. But I know that one day this painful memory will be erased when I am with you in glory forever praising our great and almighty God. -Your loving and fully devoted son, Bill.
