Anna Bernadine Grimes

Anna Bernadine Grimes Battle Creek Anna Bernadine Grimes, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, August 15, 2008. She was born March 4, 1923 in Climax, Michigan, the daughter of Nicholas and Catherine (Dekema) Terpstra. She was a 1939 graduate of Climax High School and later attended Argubrights College. Bernadine worked for many years as a medical assistant for Dr. G.W. Slagle, Dr. George Zindler and Mohlman & Gabel DDS. She was a charter member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a volunteer with the Leila Auxiliary, a Campfire leader and a member of Riverside Country Club. Bernadine enjoyed quilting, sewing, golfing, bowling, knitting, playing bridge and flower gardening. On August 16, 1940 she was married to Buford D. Grimes, who preceded her in death on May 6, 2008. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine L. Holmes. Surviving are her son, Bruce D. Grimes of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Jeanine K. Dotson of Livonia; eight grandchildren: Ann (Todd) Smith, Stephanie Cook, Tiffany (Francesco) Esposito, Michael (Renee) Cook, Brian Holmes, Gregory (Charlotte) Holmes, Jennifer (Robyn Roberts) Holmes and Steven (Sherry) Homes; stepgranddaughter, Jennifer Dotson; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Emily White of LaCoste, TX and Theda Smith of Southfield. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Terpstra and Peter Terpstra. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Gysel officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
