Gwendolyn Roberts Obituary

Gwendolyn Ann Roberts Gwendolyn Ann Roberts, age 87, passed away at 10:10 p.m. at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN, on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Born on May 24, 1921 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas D. and Pamela J. (Marsh) Roberts. She graduated from Southside High School, Fort Wayne, IN, with the Class of 1939. She attended IU Extension, Fort Wayne, IN for 2 years and Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, for 2 years, graduating in 1945. She completed her education at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, graduating in 1953 where she received physical therapy training. Her formative years were spent in Fort Wayne moving to Battle Creek, MI in 1953 and returning to Fort Wayne in June, 2008. A physical therapist for Ann J. Kellogg School for the physically challenged in Battle Creek, MI, she retired with 28 years of service. She was a former teacher at Washington Jr. High School in Fort Wayne for 7 years. She attended First Presbyterian Church and she was a member of the Battle Creek Retired Teachers Association and a past member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Survivors include a sister, Effie Joan Behrens of Fort Wayne; nephews, Otto (Diane) Behrens of Columbia City and William (Beverly) Roberts of Angola, IN; nieces, Effie Joan (Calen) Rayne of Black Mountain, NC and Joan (David) Cole of Fort Wayne; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William B.M. Roberts and John David Roberts. At the request of Ms. Roberts, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN with the Dr. Rev. John Stephen Parks officiating. Memorials may be given in memory of Ms. Roberts to First Presbyterian Church, 111 Capital Avenue NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Gwen was a very dear friend of mine for some time. I came to know her through Eleanor Harrison. These two ladies l loved dearly. I am so sorry to hear of the family's loss of this wonderful lady. Know that my prayers are with you and know that she loved all of you and spoke very highly of all of you to me.
