Mary E. Cox Battle Creek Mary Elizabeth Cox, 87, of Battle Creek, died September 27, 2008 at Battle Creek Health System. She was born April 12, 1921, the daughter of John and Elizabeth A. (Howe) Spalding in Kalamazoo Township. Mary worked as a housekeeper for the Gould family for over 16 years. She also worked at Kellogg's for a short time. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Cox in 2003; her parents; one brother; and one sister. She is survived by her son, Phillip L. Golyar of Battle Creek; daughter, Sharon Smith of New York; stepson, Jack Cox of Battle Creek; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Arlene Prior and Myrtle Niblack, both of Battle Creek. Mary enjoyed reading, cooking and playing her piano. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren in her home. Friends may call from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday October 2, 2008 at Shaw Funeral Home. Services will take place 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Carlson, First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to the First Presbyterian Church or Schaffer Adult Foster Care Home.
