Ida M. "Grana" Haan

Ida M. "Grana" Haan Battle Creek Ida M. "Grana" Haan, 82, of Battle Creek, died Monday evening, November 3, 2008 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Dowagiac, Michigan on May 30, 1926, the daughter of Marion Blue and Nora (Person) Crow. Her parents died when she was very young and Ida was raised in the Climax-Fulton area by her foster parents, Flora and Mayfield McGurer. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and worked for many years at Michigan National Bank, Michigan Bank Card, and Spiegels in Battle Creek. Ida married George W. "Papa" Haan in Paw Paw on June 6, 1958; he preceded her in death on February 22, 2006. She was formerly married to Samuel Haylock. Ida is survived by her son, Chuck (Cathy) Haylock of Bellevue; a daughter, (in-law), Kay Haylock of Richland; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. She was also preceded in death by two sons, David Haylock in 1995 and George W. Haan, Jr. in 1970; a sister, Mary Brininstool; and brothers, Glenn, Jack, Paul and Victor Blue. Ida attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a very giving person and enjoyed helping others in need. Her true love in life was being with her family for the holidays and spending time with her many good friends, either listening to music or playing cards. Ida enjoyed her garden, shopping, pontoon boat rides with Kay, sewing and going out to eat. She loved to cook and was well known for her wonderful cookies and pies which she loved to share with her "boys" across the street, family and friends. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association would be appreciated.
