Jeannette Chase Obituary

Jeannette M. Chase Hastings Jeannette M. Chase, of Hastings, passed away January 14, 2009, at Thornapple Manor. Jeannette was born in Jackson, MI, on April 9, 1914, the daughter of John and Clara (Zimmer) MacNaughton. A 1935 graduate of Foote Hospital in Jackson where she became a registered nurse, Jeannette worked as a general and private-duty nurse, a nurse at Pennock Hospital from 1956 to 1960, and at a physicians office for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hastings. Jeannette enjoyed knitting crafts and playing cards. She was a collector of Hummels, coins and stamps. She was an excellent cook, who loved to prepare meals for her family. Jeannette will be remembered as a loving, wife, mother and grandmother. On March 1, 1936, she married Lyle C. Chase and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2004. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Don) Hammond of Battle Creek; grandsons: Donald (Lois) Hammond of East Leroy, Steven (Elizabeth) Hammond of Northville, Paul Hammond of Battle Creek, and David (Linda) Hammond of Willow Brook, IL; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jeannette was also preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Harold Saines, and a sister, Frances Reaves. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Memorial contributions to Thornapple Manor Activity Fund will be appreciated. The family is being served by the Williams-Gores Funeral Home in Delton.
