Naomi Mae Ryder Battle Creek Naomi Mae Ryder, age 75, of Battle Creek, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. Mrs. Ryder was born on May 6, 1933 in Kalamazoo to Leland A. and Grace M. (Roberts) Shears. She was a lifelong resident of this area and a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. She was a homemaker. Other places of employment included the State Liquor Control Office in Lansing, working in the cafeteria. She was preceded in death by husbands Albert Wichner Jr. in 1977 and Charles Otis Ryder in 1994. Naomi was a former member of the Battle Creek Lions Club. She is survived by daughters, Sharon (Kenneth) Neff of Galesburg and Nancy Ann Swegles of Battle Creek; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Cooper of Kalamazoo; brother, Bert (Lynn) Philley of Colon; cousin, Tom (Nancy) Fleming; and brother-in-law, Leslie O'Dell of Marshall. She was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita O'Dell (2008). A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Hicks Cemetery in Pennfield. Arrangements are by the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are to the American Heart Association.
