Courtney Humes Obituary

Courtney Marie Humes Battle Creek Courtney Marie Humes, age 23, of Battle Creek, died Monday evening, January 26, 2009, at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, following a 3-year illness. Courtney was born on August 3, 1985 in Battle Creek and was the daughter of Charles Douglas and Marjorie Jane (VanGeison) Humes. She was a 2004 graduate of Pennfield High School and she had been employed at Dew's Pizza, Marywood Golf Course and The Medalist Golf Club during her high school years. Courtney was the Third Grade Student of the Year at Purdy Elementary School and had played soccer in Junior High School. She was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church of Battle Creek. Courtney enjoyed listening to Country Music and going to concerts. She was known to attend many a garage sale, but her true passion was The University of Michigan! Courtney is survived by her daughter: Emma Marie Humes; her mother: Marjorie Jane "Margie" Humes of Battle Creek; her father: Charles Douglas "Doug" Humes of Battle Creek; her sister: Heather Lynn (Gary) Rudd of Durham, NC; niece: Delainey Faith Rudd; paternal grandmother: Dorothy R. (Rolfe) Humes of Battle Creek; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and special friend and caregiver: Pat Teachout. Courtney was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Leslie A. VanGeison and Jeanne M. (Redmond) Lane and her paternal grandfather: Donald Humes. At the request of the family, friends may call on Friday, January 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, 98 Capital Avenue, NE, with Father Craig J. Lusk, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Courtney's honor may be made to her daughter Emma's Educational Trust Fund c/o of Independent Bank or Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. I just heard the news about Courtney and I am very sad to hear about your loss. I graduated with Courtney and was her rommate for a short time our freshmen year of college. She was a sweet women who lit up any room she walked into. She will be missed. My sympathies for her family during this loss.

I met Courtney years ago on St. Marys Lake, she was hanging out with my dad and friends all the time. Most of my dads friends ignored me, but she always talked to me and looked out for me. She was one of the happiest, nicest girls i've met. Im sorry for your loss.
