Peter Lesley Obituary

Peter Fredrick Lesley, Jr. Battle Creek Peter Fredrick Lesley, Jr., 82, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Battle Creek Health System. Fred was born July 10, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Peter and Anna (Smith) Lesley. Fred graduated from Redford High School and the University of Michigan with an engineering degree. Fred belonged to various Masonic organizations as a "good and faithful servant" and leader, and also co-chair of the Holy Land Pilgrimage. Fred was a dear, respected, quiet leader in the Unity Church of Battle Creek and Unity Church of Kalamazoo. He had been a leader in Boy Scouts when his sons were growing up. Fred is survived by his wife, Carol; two sisters, Eleanor Lesley of Portage and Margot L. Davis of Harbor Springs; three sons, Gary of Bay City, Bruce of Ruston, Virginia, and Larry of Vancouver, Washington; one stepson, Bryan Hoffman of Cincinnati, Ohio; an ex-wife, Marion J. Lesley; six grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. At the request of the family, a memorial service, including Masonic service, to celebrate Fred's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Birchwood United Methodist Church, 3003 Gethings Rd., Battle Creek with the Reverend Robert Nystrom and the Reverend Marty Newman officiating. A memorial visitation will be held at the church Monday, February 16, 2009 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Land Pilgrimage, P.O. Box 498, Battle Creek, MI 49017. Arrangements were made by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral home. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com
