Betty Stange Obituary

Betty Jane Stange Battle Creek Betty Jane Stange, age 90, of Battle Creek, died Monday, February 16, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Stange was born on November 28, 1918 in Franklin, Pennsylvania to Frank H. and Helen M. (Pyle) Brown. She had been a resident of this area the majority of her life. Betty had been employed by Oaklawn Hospital for twenty years, from 1960 to 1980. She was a registered nurse and had served as the Night Supervisor for seventeen years. For the last three years, she filed the role of Director of Utilization Review. On January 21, 1945, she married John N. Stange in Hawaii. Betty met John while they both were serving in the United States Army. She served as a nurse during World War II and retired holding the rank of Captain. Betty was a member of the Ceresco Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school. She also was a member of the church's Women Circle. In 2008, Betty served as president of the Resident Council at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility and also worked in the gift shop. She was an avid knitter, reader and enjoyed traveling and cooking. Betty was a very social person and enjoyed memberships in the Marshall Monday Club and the Emmett Stars Extension Club. She is survived by sons, John (Darlene) Stange of Battle Creek and Robert (Carol) Stange of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Ryan W. Stange and Jenny L. Stange, both of Battle Creek; sister, Jean Ballard of Franklin, PA; and brothers, Francis (Irene) Brown of Media, PA and Richard (Mary Ann) Brown of Oil City, PA. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristin D. Stange. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are to the Ceresco Baptist Church.
