Marianne Smith

Marianne Smith Battle Creek Marianne (Eldridge) Smith, 75, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away quietly at her home which she shared with her son on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. She was born April 3, 1933 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Vernon B. Eldridge and Glenora (Garlik) Eldridge. Marianne was a homemaker for most of her life. She had also worked in the customer service department for 15 years at Meijer's retiring in 2002; she formerly worked at the Transamerica Towers, and worked at Burger Chef for several years She married Joseph Eugene Smith on December 2, 1950 in Galesburg, MI; however he passed away on January 27, 2005. Marianne is survived by two sons, Dennis A. Smith of Battle Creek, and Mark D. and Lisa L. Smith of Marshall, MI; two daughters, Debra L. Smith of Lake Odessa, MI, and Cynthia L. Stone of Ann Arbor, MI; seven grandchildren, Jerry Smith, Courtney Smith, Lauren Smith, Alex Smith, Mark Smith, Jr., Michael and Andrea Smith, and Melissa Smith; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry and Tari Eldridge of Kalamazoo, Glen "Buck" and Barbara Eldridge and David "Diz" and Ellen Eldridge both of Augusta, MI; two sisters, Nancy and Don Rutherford and Sharon Bowers all of Galesburg, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Steven Joe Smith in 2005; her grandson, William Stone in 1992; and two sisters, Joyce Ninnes in 1999 and Marjorie Snipe in February 2009. She graduated in 1951 from Galesburg-Augusta High School. Marianne sang in Sweet Adeline's, played the piano, playing with her children and grandchildren, lottery tickets, avid reader, and enjoyed taking exercise/leisure walks. No visitation is scheduled at this time. A graveside memorial service in planned for late April 2009 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to American Cancer Society.
