Patricia Baas Obituary

Patricia E. "Pat" Baas Tallahassee, FL Patricia E. "Pat" Baas passed away at home on Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Tallahassee surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born in Flint, Michigan in 1926. She lived in Battle Creek, Michigan for most of her life before relocating to Tallahassee in 1992. She was employed as the Assistant to the Director of Willard Library for many years. For 20 years, until her retirement in 1986, she was employed as the Assistant to the Director of Special Education in Battle Creek. This position was one she truly cherished and often reminisced about. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Joe Prior. Pat was the second of four children born to this union. Her siblings, Mary Hillier, Martha Kellogg and Jack Prior all preceded her in death. She had an incredibly close relationship with her siblings and considered them to be her closest friends as well. Pat was of the Episcopal faith. She was an avid reader, and gardener and had a great passion for all animals large and small. She was a loyal FSU football fan and rarely missed a home game. She spent many days at St George Island to collecting shells, walking on the beach and watching for dolphins.. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife and aunt who embraced all with unconditional love. Her unfailing kindness to others and love of family were the cornerstones of her life. While those of us left behind will go on with heavy hearts, we rejoice in the end of her suffering. Pat is survived by her husband of 44 years, Russell Baas; daughter, Jan Taylor, and son-in-law, Tom Long; stepdaughter, Pat Curry of Nashville, Tennessee; stepson, Larry Baas of Ocala, Florida; 1 grandchild; 1 great-grandchild; two nieces and five nephews. Services will be held at Maclay Gardens on Friday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or Elder Care Meals on Wheels Program.

Such a loving and special lady, who shared her family with me and became my "Florida Mom". We will miss her warm smile every day. My heart is with her family.

Pat was a meticulous secretary and very kind person. I worked with her one summer during the 60's and she helped me so much. I still have type written recipes she gave me. May God bless her soul.
