Charlotte Westwood Obituary

Charlotte Elizabeth "Betty" Westwood Battle Creek Charlotte Elizabeth "Betty" Westwood, 92, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. She was born July 14, 1916, in Bedford Twp., the daughter of Edward and Lulu (Knights) Allen. Betty was a 1934 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. She retired from Rich Manufacturing after 29½years of service. Betty married Mr. James D. "Don" Westwood on January 26, 1946 in Angola, IN. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2000. Betty enjoyed mushrooming, fishing, and playing cards. She was well known for her delicious pies and sharing crafts with others. Betty was a life member of American Legion #298, VFW #565 and Eagle's Aerie #299. Betty leaves her dear friend, Norman DePew of Battle Creek and her sisters, Ruth Hogenson of Port Richey, FL and Janice (Elroy) Jensen of Gilbert, IA. Betty also leaves her son, David L. Shepard of Denver and sister-in-law Doris Korp of Battle Creek. Betty is also survived by nieces and nephews Jim (Donna) Korp, David (Lucy) Korp, Laura (Dannie) Lewis and Sally (Doug) Kundtz, who helped care for her after her husband's passing, as well as ten additional nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Currier and Mae Shultis and her brother, Leon Allen. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2009 at Royal Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Good Samaritan Hospice Care.
