Jo Anne P. Murray

Jo Anne P. Murray Battle Creek Jo Anne Patricia (Swantko) Murray, 65, known to all her friends as "Murphy" of Battle Creek, MI, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. She was born May 28, 1943 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of John Swantko and Anne Grande. Jo Anne was a pharmacy technician for 20 years at the Battle Creek Health Systems until she retired October 2008. She was formerly married to Ronald Murray and Ronald Funk. She is survived by two daughters: Christy A. Stevens of Kalamazoo, MI, Michelle and Sidney Granum of Avoca, Minnesota; two sons: Wayne Funk of Sioux Falls, SD, Rodney Funk of Battle Creek; two brothers and one sister; eight grandchildren: Daniel and Elisha Stevens, Brandon Funk, Amanda Stevens, Morgan and Jessee Wilson, Britany Bliss, Shane Granum, Alexander Diggs and Mackenzie Granum; two great-grandchildren: Madilyn Stevens and Alonso Funk; and her beloved life-long friends: Annette Garrison of Battle Creek and Joan Nichols of Dowling, MI. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter: Kimberly Marie Funk in July 1965. She was raised at the St. Mary's All Girls Orphanage near St. Mary's Lake and graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1961. She then married Ronald Funk in 1961 and they had five children. Murphy was a sun worshipper and loved the times she could sit at her dock on Fine Lake enjoying a glass of fine wine. She enjoyed riding in hot air balloons, Para sailing, bowling, and collecting anything with Tweedy Bird on them. She was an avid reader, watching NASCAR and a NASCAR fan of Ryan Newman. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Memorial services commemorating the Life of Jo Anne "Murphy" Murray will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor James L. Sparks officiating. Cremation will be conducted.
